Artemisia oelandica is an island endemic restricted to the calcareous alvar landscapes of Oland in Sweden. Public Swedish and European conservation sources treat it as a protected habitat specialist of dry limestone grassland and sparsely vegetated alvar, which is a much more useful way to understand the species than as just another northern wormwood.
